Just when I felt like giving up God sent a prophet. When my proverbial oil and flour was about to run out, the Prophet spoke life to me and my circumstances.  Have you ever had a divine encounter? Has a Prophet been sent to your house? Were you prepared to be a blessing to a complete stranger?

There are seasons in our lives where we have been through and done it all.  We have exhausted all of our options and our resources are almost depleted.  There is just enough to make one more meal for our households.

We think we need more money, more food, more friends, more God Fathers but what we really need is a sent one, a prophet who will speak what God says.

Has God ever directed you to go to a place of reciprocity ( a place of perfect equality of needs)?  This was the situation for the Prophet Elijah in 1 Kings 17. In a time of drought God directed him to go to Zarephath, where He had prepared a widow there to supply Elijah with food.

As soon as Elijah arrived, he asked the widow for water and a piece of bread.  The widow woman went for the water, but responded from her reality to the request for bread. She felt as though she did not have enough to extend such hospitality to her guest.  She declared that what she had was just enough for her to make one meal for her and her son and then they would die.

Her fear was her reality and expectation.  She had a handful of flour, a little olive oil and she was gathering sticks.  But the Prophet had what she needed.  He spoke a word of life to her circumstances, “Don’t be afraid, go home and do as you have said, but first make a small loaf of bread for me and bring it to me, and make something for yourself and your son.”

What seemed like a selfish or insensitive request by the Prophet, was accompanied with a life giving, rhema word for the widow.  It was the perfect barter of needs.  The Prophet spoke what God had said concerning her lack.  He told her that the jar of flour would not be used up and the jug of oil will not run dry until the day the Lord sends rain on the land.

Just like the widow, you too may have a Prophet that can speak or has spoken life to your situation.  Are you able to recognize the one who God has sent to speak to your situation? Are you willing to obey even when his needs and request seem impossible?

It is in the obedience of the spoken word of God that the blessing is experienced.  The Prophet is a vessel or a conduit of God’s word, bearing instruction and or judgment. The widow was prepared by God for this divine encounter even though she was unaware.  Her obedience was a manifestation of her faith.

Have you been obedient to your divine encounter? Have you done exactly what you were told? There is a blessing disguised in your divine encounters.  May you not miss the blessing, may your flour and oil outlast your season of drought.
